HSE Midland Area Research Ethics Committee

IMPORTANT Update August 2021. The HSE Midland Area Research Ethics Committee is not currently operating due to the pandemic. ICGP REC has covered the REC requirements for this area temporarily until September 2021, but they are no longer in the position to take on any further applications. Any amendments for studies approved by the ICPG REC during this year can still be submitted to this committee, but no new applications will be reviewed. National R&D is working on the reestablishment of a Midland Area Research Ethics Committee with a view to having it up and running by November 2021.

The HSE Midland Area REC reviews research proposals from HSE staff and academic students who wish to use the facilities, staff, patients/clients, or information pertaining to the staff of patients/clients in the four counties of Laois, Offaly, Longford, and Westmeath for research purposes. The HSE Midland Area REC reviews both community and hospital-based research proposals – Midland Regional Hospitals Mullingar, Portlaoise, and Tullamore.

Coverage Area:

Community and Regional Hospitals in the old Midland Health Board region only (Laois, Offaly Longford, Westmeath)
